Most decorative metals fall under the spec section 05700 - Ornamental Metals. These metals normally mark the project, give it originality, or even an artistic appeal. H&H offers design solutions that not only make the project cost effective, but also create the design within budget and most important within schedule. The idea is pre-fabrication. More work within a controlled environment means less installation time in the field, less jobsite congestion, higher quality, and an overall improved finished product. Take a look at some of out featured Decorative Metal jobs. Tabor Center - "Features":
This project came to us on a napkin, literally speaking. The Tabor Center, a retail landmark along Denver's 16th street mall, was getting a facelift. The architect had a concept of the end result and called upon us to make it a reality. We, at first, didn't know quite what to call them. Names like "Artist's Palette", and "Bug Eyes" were tossed around until "Features" was decided upon. What a perfect name for the dominant feature of the building. H&H began work on designing how these features were to be built, keeping in mind cost and schedule. Built by our CNC Router the walls of these creations are made of 6mm Reynobond® ACM. .063 aluminum nested in grooves creates the elliptical look, while spun aluminum caps screw on from the sides, to finish the assembly. 1" Aluminum rods extend downward to a light base to illuminate the building at night. Nineteen pieces in total, 8 weeks fabrication, and only 2 days to install. Liberty Media Headquarters - Spandrel Panels:
Originally designed to be cut from solid aluminum plate these 14 spandrel panels were quickly becoming a problem from a fabrication standpoint, not to mention the 36-week lead time to the General Contractor. With cost and schedule in mind, H&H, along with the Architect, came up with a better solution.
Aluminum angle and I beam sections make up the skeleton of these panels, with 6mm Reynobond® ACM adhered to the face. Two special extrusions were designed to form the 6 panel door look and the fluted base. .040" aluminum was fabricated to form the reveals with a sheet of specular "honeycomb" material in between. These panels were shop fabricated and hung by crane at the job site. Minimal time and impact was spent on site due to the panels being completely built in our shop. A jig was used to locate the panels level and square in stone openings and no fasteners are visible. 14 panels in total, eight weeks fabrication, 5 days to install (mostly window flashings), resulting in a spectacular look that not only came in under budget, but had a better impact on the job schedule. Denver Pavilions- "Great Wall":
This wall is truly spectacular! It is 100' in the air, 30' tall, and spans over 300' long. It is a landmark of the Downtown Denver Skyline. It showcases a retail space that is 3 stories tall and 2 city blocks wide located on the 16th Street Mall in Denver, CO.
At night the entire sign is backlit and shades of purple, red, blues, greens, and yellows are cast upon its face. A mock-up was built to test the color, corrugation, and perforation of these panels. This ensured that the final product would not only backlight properly, but the light cast upon the face of the wall would also appear. These panels were prefabricated in our shop in varying lengths due to the curve of the wall. Rubber spacers were made to keep the aluminum panels out of contact with the structural steel frame. Special scaffolding brackets were engineered to hang off of the sign due to the limited lift access around the project. The end result is a breathtaking sight. Truly a great landmark project.
